Inspiring Virtuous Leadership in 2016: Center Sponsors Thirteenth Institute

Seventeen talented students, representing seven institutions and two ministries, gathered at Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) for two weeks in May for the Center’s thirteenth Law, Justice, and Culture Institute, the fourth hosted at ONU.  The institutions represented included four new schools – Cedarville University, College of DuPage, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and the University of Wisconsin (Madison) – as well as Olivet Nazarene University, Texas A&M University, and Wheaton College.  In order to make a way for the nation’s best and brightest students, the Center stepped out in faith, extending over $17,000 in scholarship money, the most in the Institute’s history, thanks to the generosity of the Center’s faithful supporters.

The 2016 Institute graduates earned three academic credits at their home institutions.  They were challenged by the Center’s Executive Director and Founder, Professor Charlie Emmerich, and guest lecturers to integrate the biblical understanding of justice into their career callings.  In addition to Professor Emmerich, the students also heard from Dr. Susan Emmerich on creation care and stewardship; Marty Ozinga III of the successful Ozinga Brothers, Inc., on running a company according to biblical principles; law professor Morse Tan on defending the sanctity of human life; Center Director Zach Bohannon on affirming a Judeo-Christian worldview in law; Richard and Dorothy Jones on biblical principles of personal and governmental fiscal responsibility; and Jim Whiddon, founder of The Old School, on learning values and skills to become life-changing leaders.
