Mock Trial
The Law and Politics Society biannually participates in a Mock Trial at the Kankakee County Courthouse. The Society serves as the defense to Olivet Nazarene’s Criminal Justice students acting as the prosecution. This allows students a unique opportunity to gain experience with an Honorable Judge from the Courthouse and immerse themselves in court proceedings. Students do opening and closing statements and cross-examine witnesses, while making quick judgements for objections and whether to call their witness to the stand. Every year the students come from the experience happy they had done it and feeling more comfortable in front of a jury and in court generally. It is quite fun and also teaches the students to engage in group work while critically thinking like a lawyer.
