1. Who should I contact if I have any questions?

2. Where should I go initially for information about Olivet Nazarene University?
Visiting students are encouraged to learn more about the Center by looking through this website, and more about Olivet by checking out www.olivet.edu. Olivet’s website contains a wealth of information, including a virtual tour of the campus, maps, and directions to the University.
3. Who do I contact if I have any question about on-campus housing?
Questions should be directed to Austin Brown (see question 1). Upon arrival, please go to the information desk in Ludwig to pick up your room keys. There will be two students per apartment. The apartment includes: two bedrooms, kitchen (no dishes), living room, and bathroom. The apartments are not furnished, i.e. they only have beds, desks, and chairs, so please plan and pack accordingly.
4. I’m attending the Creation Care Practicum – what do I do?
The Creation Care Practicum will be held on Saturday, May 18th, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the campus of Olivet. Upon arriving Friday evening, please go to the information desk in Ludwig to pick up your room keys.
5. When is the first session of the Institute? What does it entail?
The first Institute session for visiting (non-Olivet) students is a campus orientation. The orientation will begin on Monday, May 20th. The orientation will include a tour of the campus, a trip to the bookstore and several other locations, a time for Q & A, and a free lunch. Following the campus orientation and lunch, the academic sessions of the Institute will begin. The first Institute session for Olivet students is on Monday, May 20th, where both Olivet and visiting students will enjoy lunch prior to the Institute beginning.
6. What options do I have for meals during the Institute?
About one-third of your meals will be provided free by the Center. For the remaining meals, there are numerous affordable restaurants in the surrounding Bourbonnais area. Please make sure you have enough money to pay for meals.
7. How do I calculate my final tuition cost? When is the balance of tuition due?
The tuition cost for taking the Institute for academic credit (3 hours) is $1,425 ($475 per credit hour). The $250 deposit sent in with your registration form will be deducted from this tuition cost. In addition, the early registration discount for visiting students ($50) and Center scholarship ($500 for Olivet students, $750 for visiting students) will be deducted to yield your final tuition balance. If you have any questions about your tuition balance, contact Austin Brown (see question 1). Unless alternative arrangements are made, the balance of tuition is due on or before Monday, May 6th. Students accepted into the program who withdraw on or before this date forfeit the $250 registration deposit. Those who withdraw on or after Tuesday, May 7th, without valid extenuating circumstances, forfeit a total of $475.
8. When should I arrive at Olivet Nazarene University?
Given that the Creation Care Practicum is on Saturday, it is highly recommended that you arrive at Olivet on Friday evening, May 17th. If you are traveling by airplane, it is typically cheapest and easiest to fly into Midway Airport. Please contact Austin Brown (see question 1) to arrange a ride from Midway Airport to Olivet.
9. How do I get to Olivet? How do I find my way around campus?
Olivet’s website contains directions to the University, as well as campus maps (see question 2). In addition, visiting students will be given a tour of the campus on the first day of the Institute.
10. When does the Institute meet?
The Institute meets for two weeks: Monday through Friday, May 20-24th, and Monday through Saturday, May 27th-June 1st. In general, classes are held between 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. In addition, there will be at least one dinner (pizza) movie-night each week, concluding by about 8:30 p.m.
11. What should students bring to the LJC course?
Students should bring a curious mind, a willingness to participate in robust dialogue, an appetite for both learning and food (many free meals will be provided by the Center), and a desire for a fun learning experience. In addition, students should bring a Bible (ESV or NIV–these are the versions generally used in class, but other translations are welcome). Students who are living on campus should bring their own pillows and bedding and enough money for about 18-20 meals (mostly breakfasts and lunches). The apartments at Olivet are unfurnished, so plan accordingly.
12. What is the appropriate attire for Institute classes and events?
Casual, modest dress (no tank tops or beach attire, please) is appropriate for class sessions. For example, shorts, nice blue jeans, and t-shirts with sleeves are acceptable.
13. Is there a reading assignment for the first day of class?
Yes. Due to the intensive nature of the Institute, there will be assigned readings for the Creation Care Practicum (May 18th) and the first day of class (May 20th), sent via email prior to May 18th. Additional materials/readings will be provided to you on the first day of class.
