On Tuesday September 24, Olivet Nazarene University’s Law and Politics Society (LPS), sponsored by the Center for Law and Culture, held an event celebrating National Constitutional Heritage Week. This event titled, “Preamble and Pastries” was created in order to educate the student body at Olivet on America’s important legal documents in interesting and interactive ways.
A number of different documents were read and then discussed by the individuals who attended the event. Not only was the Constitution read in part, but also the Declaration of Independence was also read, and the event was opened with the First Prayer of the Continental Congress.
The main highlight of this event was the presence of Olivet’s University President, Dr. John C. Bowling. Dr. Bowling read parts of the Declaration of Independence, and members of LPS were thrilled to hear his thoughts on the importance of religious liberty as well as discuss his favorite phrases from the passage on which he presented.
LPS President, Jeremy Pilz was asked what having Dr. Bowling there present meant to him. Pilz stated, “It was an honor to have Dr. Bowling attend Preamble and Pastries. He conveyed to us the most important principles of our nation’s foundational documents and illustrated how those principles apply to us today in both our own lives and at our Christian University.”
