Last week, The Center sponsored Law and Politics Society hosted a service project serving the Manteno Veterans Home. LPS spent a week during meal hours engaging the student body in writing over 300 valentines for the veterans at the home.
Olivet student, Rachel Mayotte (Class of 2021) said of the service project, “I was really attracted to the service project because I felt that it was a great way to show my appreciation that I have for veterans and for the service that they had provided for our country. My hope as I wrote the letters was that whoever received my valentine would feel extra loved and most definitely thought of.”
The goal of this service project was to remind the student body about the importance of the sacrifice these men and women have given to serve our country and provide United States citizens with freedom. Valentine’s Day is sometimes a very lonely day for individuals. LPS wanted to ensure no one felt forgotten or unimportant on a day made to celebrate sharing love for one another.
The Law and Politics Society decorated all the envelopes and then included a piece of chocolate for the veterans. LPS then hand delivered the valentines to Veterans. Emma Morris, a student who serves as a general cabinet member for LPS said “Being able to bring valentines to the Veterans at the Manteno home was a humbling experience. I loved seeing the residents’ faces light up with smiles as we handed them the notes and candy. I’m glad we took the time to hand deliver the Valentines. It was such a rewarding time!”
