On April 22, 2015, The Center for Law and Culture brought six of its most talented Legal Studies students from Olivet Nazarene University to the Illinois state capitol in Springfield for Student Lobby Day. Sponsored by the Federation of Independent Colleges and Universities, each year Student Lobby Day provides Illinois’ brightest college students with the opportunity to meet Illinois legislators and get a glimpse of the law-making process at the state level. This year, Lobby Day focused on the Monetary Assistance Program (MAP), the 4th largest financial assistance program in the nation, which helps students in need attend college. The Center’s Olivet students met briefly with Representative Kate Cloonen to thank her for her work on behalf of higher education and to encourage her continued support of needs-based MAP scholarships. While in Springfield, Olivet students got to walk around the beautiful capitol building and were later treated to a tour of the historic former capitol building, once occupied by Abraham Lincoln.
