On October 18th, Olivet Nazarene University’s Law and Politics Society (LPS), sponsored by the Center for Law and Culture, hosted a movie showing for the award-winning film Human Zoos.

Human Zoos discusses the horrors of scientific racism and the dangers of manipulating an entire race. The sterilization of people with disabilities in order to not “pass along bad genes” is also discussed in this film.

The purpose of this event was to educate the Olivet student body on the impact of these atrocities. The film reiterates the essence of the quote by George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

The Law and Politics Society was honored to host the director and producer of the film, Dr. John
G. West, Vice President of the Discovery Institute. Dr. Eric and Jennifer Wallace, friends of the Center for Law and Culture and founders of Freedom’s Journal Institute, joined Dr. West and helped to facilitate discussion.

About 30 Olivet students gathered for this movie viewing and open conversation. Topics such as racial reconciliation, the public’s response to scientific racism, and social Darwinism were explored.

Dr. Charles Emmerich, founder of the Center for Law and Culture, said regarding the event, “It was a privilege for LPS to sponsor a showing of Dr. John West’s thought-provoking documentary, Human Zoos. This showing, made possible by Dr. Eric and Jennifer Wallace, illustrated the need for Christians to be involved in public life fighting for equality and the biblical view that all of humanity is created in God’s image.”
