In the 2018 midterm election, The Center for Law and Culture (CLC) was proud to have multiple of its legal studies minor students participate in a local campaign. This local campaign was for Lindsay Parkhurst, who was running for state representative for the 79th district of Illinois.

Lindsay Parkhurst is a conservative candidate who works to be a “voice for the voiceless”. She has a background as a small business owner, defense and general practice attorney. Parkhurst also served as the president of the Kankakee Society of Women in Law. Lindsay Parkhurst and her husband Marc reside in Kankakee where they raise their daughter Lucy.

Our student representatives of the CLC worked to canvass in neighborhoods and made calls on behalf of Parkhurst’s campaign manager, Timmy Pawula. These students also provided a fresh and young perspective on what needs to be done to get the younger vote.

Jeremy Pilz, one of the students who worked on the campaign, said, “Being a member of the Lindsay Parkhurst helped me gain so much insight into politics at the grassroots level. It gave me a new refreshed perspective of what really matters in politics: the voice and opinion of the people. Going door to door hearing from everyday hard working Americans and residents of the 79th District of Illinois gave me hope for the future and a sense of purpose in what I feel God has called me to do.”

31 percent of voters aged 18-29 cast votes in the 2018 election. Early predictions show this is at least 10 percent higher than the past 2014 midterm election (U.S. News and World Report). The Center for Law and Culture works to inspire virtuous leaders and part of being a leader is fulfilling a citizen’s civic duty to vote. The Center is proud to work with the Parkhurst campaign team in the community.

When asked about how being a campaign manager has shaped his life, Pawula said, “It has shaped me to be a better and more well-rounded person. The day-to-day is never the same; there is always more work to accomplish.”
